Ever since the war on drugs started people argue that the campaign is a huge failure and drugs are more accessible now than ever. But this is information is false, the war against drugs is actually more successful than many people think. The War on Drugs has in fact been a success, and will continue to be one as long as it goes on.
Drugs are not as easy to access as the media puts it out to be. Due to the amount of policeman investigating drug cases in the streets due to the war on drugs, many consumers are too paranoid to buy anything from drug dealers. And due to the violence associated with drug dealers, many consumers are too worried about confrontations, so they just stop buying drugs in order to prevent them.
It is difficult to measure the amount of success, for there is no formula for one to compute success, however we can rely on statistics and facts. Even though the incarceration rate remains high and is steadily increasing, the drug use in America has decreased by 50 percent in the past 30 years, cocaine production has dropped by almost two-thirds, and America is now successfully getting nonviolent addict to reform by sending them to treatments facilities instead of jail.
In 1976 America had more than 500,000 heroin addicts, and of those addicts more than two thousand users died of an overdose. This number has decreased significantly, we now have around 200,000 heroin users which is not nearly as much as America had 35 years ago. Despite what many people saying, the war on drugs has been very successful. The amount of drug users has decreased significantly and drugs are not as easy to access as the media sets it out to be. America is successfully decreasing the amount of people who are overdosing on drugs as well as the amount of drug users, therefore, we need to keep fighting this War in order to help make America a better place for our children to live.
